Schloss Hugenpoet is a fairytale castle in the south of Essen. If you would like to feel like a prince or princess for a day or two, you should plan a stay here. This 17th century moated castle consists of the main house and several outbuildings. Hugenpoet is also the home of the restaurant Laurushaus, which holds a Michelin star as well as the Hugenpöttchen, which has earned a Michelin bib gourmand. The parks and buildings are listed monuments and all are still owned by the family Fürst zu Fürstenberg. At the beginning of December, an advent market (Nikolausmarkt) attracts visitors looking for special seasonal gifts.
