International Christmas Market Essen

The pre-Christmas magic

Essen makes Christmas dreams come true

12 November until 23 December 2021

The scent of roasted almonds, potato pancakes and mulled wine fills the icy air. The squares and shopping streets of Essen's city centre are aglow with lights. Welcome to the International Christmas Market Essen! With around 170 stalls, it is one of the greatest Christmas markets in Germany and has won several awards for its diversity and beauty. Spread throughout the city centre, the huts stand under a sea of twinkling lights - an atmosphere that makes a visit contemplative and dreamlike.

  • All caterers will dispense with disposable plastic tableware for consumption on site.
  • There is a deposit system for cups and glasses.
  • There is an absolute ban on plastic bags.
  • The organisers attach importance to regional, fair trade and organic products as well as a good ecological balance when choosing traders.
