The Eulenspiegel cinema opened in 1955 and belongs to the Essener Filmkunsttheater (Essen Arthouse Cinemas) since 1980. Today the building and the lovingly cared for 1950s furnishings are listed under monumental protection. The theatre offers seats for 400 people and a Wurlitzer and Kimball silent film organs are permanently installed. Despite its 60 years of age the Eulenspiegel is technically up to date: newest digital technology but also analogous formats as 35 and 70mm guarantee epic cinema on the 100m2 screen.

Besides the daily programme exclusive previews, children’s cinema, silent films with live music and many special series take place here. A popular café and a little museum of cinema history in the foyer are also part of the Eulenspiegel.
