January 2010 saw the grand opening of the new building of the Museum Folkwang. It was designed by British star architect David Chipperfield, and attracted great media interest. The light-filled new rooms show the works of art from the past three centuries to their best advantage, and it has also proved to be the ideal new home for the collection of the German Poster Museum.

The museum’s gourmet restaurant “Vincent & Paul” offers an exquisite and international cuisine. Founded in 1902 by Karl Ernst Osthaus in Hagen, the Museum Folkwang with its superb collections is one of the most renowned museums in the country. After Osthaus’ death in 1921, the society Folkwang-Museumsverein”, initiated by art lovers in Essen, bought the collection for the city of Essen.
