The Essen Light Weeks have provided brightness and brilliance with their festive illuminations for nearly 70 years in an otherwise very dark season. In 2018, the bright major event is presenting itself in a new guise. Instead of the static photos and slides that we have previously seen in the past 16 years devoted to a European partner country and before that different key topics, visitors of this great light show can look forward to an impressive LED curtain, LED light sticks and installations. The start to the Essen Light Weeks shapes the "Essen Light Festival", which successfully celebrated its premiere in 2016. It awaits with atmospheric lighting scenes and spectacular 3D video mapping.

The whole of Essen city centre will also gleam over the course of the ten event weeks with sparkling, Christmassy lighting. And to make sure that we don’t just delight the visitors, but also protect the environment, all of the light week emblems are made of climate friendly LED light tubes. As well as this, only "green energy" from renewable energy sources will be used.
