The DRK-Kreisverband Essen e.V. (German Red Cross Essen Regional Association) is one of the few regional associations in which archive work of this sort is being carried out. In an area covering around 200 square metres at the regional office in Essen, numerous interesting objects associated with the Red Cross in the city are on display in a museum. Over 1200 exhibits have been brought together with a loving eye for detail. The majority of the objects have a link to the history of the city of Essen. They bring the history of the Red Cross to life.

The museum, which was founded in 1990, also provides an insight into the internal history of the Essen regional association. Medals, decorations and written documents have been collected over many years. They are presented in glass display cases. The permanent exhibition includes: various pieces of rescue equipment, medical appliances, flags, books, pictures, certificates and badges.
