World novelty meets maximum relaxation at the city's Insta-secret tip!

Your day starts in Essen's city centre, where you leave the numerous shopping opportunities to the left for the time being. At the Tourist Info you get the technology that sends you on a journey back in time to the year 1887. Together with the virtual actors Henning Baum and Tatjana Clasing you will experience the world's first guided city tour. Using the latest technology, here and now blend with a virtual reality. Only before your eyes you will experience a journey to the year 1887, the day of the funeral of the great industrialist Alfred Krupp. With the mixed reality glasses, you never lose sight of your surroundings. On the approximately 1.6 km long route, you will experience spectacles, ancient building facades and sceneries at various locations. An experience that is currently only available in Essen!

After your journey through time, you should take it easy. After a little shopping in the city centre or on the trendy Rüttenscheider Straße , you can take the bus, tram or S-Bahn to Baldeneysee. From there, a section of the popular BaldeneySteig hiking trail leads you high above the lake. After you've probably been able to collect a lot of Insta-content on your journey through time, this is where the insider tip for a souvenir photo awaits you. Not far from the hiking trail, a small trail leads to a rocky outcrop with a breathtaking view over large parts of the trail. Pinch yourself: You are still in the middle of the Ruhr metropolis with almost 600,000 inhabitants.

Once you've taken your souvenir photos, you can either make your way to the 12th-century Isenburg Castle ruins or stop off at the Heimliche Liebe or the Jagdhaus Schellenberg for a drink and a panoramic view of Baldeneysee.

You can finish your story of the perfect trip to Essen in style in the district of Werden. Around the half-timbered houses, the abbey and the Folkwang University of the Arts , you can indulge in Kettner's Kamota (awarded 1 Michelin star) or Chef's & Butchers . Both restaurants are among the innovative forces in Essen and will make your day perfect. #Foodporn
